Back on the bike and a few notes

Ah yes...a ride in the park..finally! I got my bike's back tire and wheel replaced, as well as a mid level tune up about 2 months ago. And I finally took it for a spin for a short ride through the park a few days ago. It was a fun ride, but the air in my tires were really too long, and boy did I feel it!

I must say that Plano did a great job with the bike path improvements. They also put additional benches next to the path, which is great when an old fat fogey like myself needs to sit down for a few minutes. I do wish they would hurry up and open up the bridge that connects Bob Woodruff to the bike path that goes up to where the Amphitheater is.

My ride was only about 5 miles, but it was fun. I left early, about 7:15 AM, because it was already 84 degrees and was on track to go to 100 later in the day (which it did!).

A few weeks ago we purchased a new ladies Schwinn bike for our 11 year old daughter. Her old bike had fallen apart, and she was using her older sister's old bike - which is a piece of junk now. My husband took a look at the local bike shop to find a good used one, but they were all so expensive! So, we just went up to Wal-Mart and got her the Schwinn. We bought an almost identical bike for her older sister a year ago, and it has done well for her, so I figured the $180 for it would be worth it.

One thing I found really strange: when we were looking for her bike, we visited a couple of Wal-Marts. The one on Park & Dallas Tollway actually has a couple of CARBON road bikes!!! I realize this store is on the rich side of town - but seriously, anyone that is going to drop $1300 to $1800 on a bike is NOT going to buy it at Wal-Mart!!! That is just CRAZY!!!

Anyhoo...today's bike related goal is to buy a new bike for our 7 year old. No doubt we will probably end up at Wal-Mart or Target in the end, but I am going to run up to Plano Cycling just in case they have something decent for her. She loves to ride her bike, but is just too big for the one she has.
