A Gadget, A Map, and A Link
Well, here it is Tuesday - and I haven't been on a bike ride for over a week. I was a bit unwell this week, and still not feeling the best. Nothing too severe - though I am surrounded by sick people at work. Hopefully I can ward it off!
On Friday I purchased myself a Trek bike computer. I must say I am pretty excited about my purchase, though I haven't had a chance to use it just yet. I bought a Trek Incite 11i. It must be cool because it has the lower case "i" in the name right?
Anyhoo...I picked it up for about $42 I believe at Richardson Bike Mart. It has several features, but I chose it because it was the cheapest computer I could find that tracked average speed AND cadence. I hope that once I can see what I am actually average for speed, that it will help me build up more speed and endurance so that I will be able to keep up on low level group rides. And knowing cadence is helpful as well for my "training" purposes, as it were.
I also picked up a map that shows all the bike/walking/skating trails in the DFW area. It doesn't include everything, of course, but the parks with the longest trails, etc. Once me and the girls are down tackling all the bike paths in the Plano park system, we will start working on the parks on this new map. At least that is what we are shooting for - hopefully by the end of 2010 we can say we have ridden all the park bike trails in Plano and have a few of the other ones under our belts.
Getrichslowly.org has a neat post about alternative means of transportation. Looks like JD is doing a lot more walking and got a new bike for rides as well. Good for him! His site focuses on building wealth by being frugal/general personal finance. Great site - not really related to biking of course, but one worth reading.
I am not sure what this week will bring. Hopefully I can squeeze in some rides between now and Sunday before the whole week escapes me.

Hey "Fat Chick", I'm riding my bike to lose weight too...well, it started out that way...now I want to lose weight so I can ride my bike farther!
I've set a large but reasonable goal for next year, that is keeping me on track with my rides. Do you have a biking goal...besides losing weight, I mean?
Set yourself a goal...like to do a Century ride, or a Triathlon, and lets cheer for one another!...we could be dueling fat cyclist bloggers, LOL!

Thanks for the comment Leslie!
I would love to be able to ride the MS150 ride in Dallas next year. Unfortunately, work and the seemingly) never ending rain in October really killed any riding for me.
