Flying Porta Potties & Matt Damon

Ah the internet. It is a wonderful tool in many ways. One way I like to use it is living through others. Yes, yes, I know...a bit "second handerish" of me. However, I find it useful to read about people doing things I will never do. Why? Not because I necessarily intend to try to do those specific things; it just reinforces what humans in general are capable of, and, being part of the same species, maybe, just maybe, I am capable of doing more than I do.

But let's not get all philosophical here. Not gonna lie: it is mostly for entertainment. I just love to read a good story about real people participating in activities that interest me. And it is even more fun when famous people I like are involved.

I sometimes pop over to Bicycling.com, and there is usually something interesting to read over there. However, I have to say, sometimes it is hard to find stuff there. Not sure if it is a site issue, or a reader issue. Anyhoo, am I just glad that I get emails from the site, or else I would have totally missed this a very fun article about Matt Damon and his brother Kyle's one day charity ride in South Africa.

I adore Matt Damon; he is fun to watch on film, and he is from New England. He also looks a lot like one of my younger brothers, Dan. And Tom Brady of the Patriots. All plusses in my book. (Though I could never refer to Tom Brady or Matt Damon as handsome, because that is just wrong, since they look like my brother. It would seem so...incestuous...shudder.)  While I don't share a lot of his politics, I admire how he puts his money where his mouth with, and gets behinds some very worthwhile causes such as water.org.

This story is written by Kyle, Matt Damon's older brother, who is a Boston area artist, and apparently an avid cyclist. His story of finally getting a chance to go on a seriuos ride with little bro Matt is quite entertaining. It's well written, and I have to say, I totally could visualize the flying porta-potty. Good times.
