Doot Doot DooT Puppy Days
Puppy is doing fine; she has been with us 1 month, and is adjusting well. Still haven't gone for a ride - but FINALLY the weather seems to be cooperating, so hopefully some time soon.
I am trying to get Trillian trained so that she is a little less crazy in the house, and more obedient off the leash. She is making some progress; she is much better about going the bathroom OUTSIDE, but still needs some patience in that area. She is still little, so if I wait too long between potty breaks, she sometimes cannot hold it.
Last night we went over to a friend's house for dinner. Trillian couldn't come, since she is still a little rowdy and needs a few more shots, so in the crate she went. I don't like crating her, but it is the safest option for her (and the house, and probably the cats haha). My sister came by at one point and let her out and played with her for an hour, and then crated the dog and left. Which was very helpful. The only problem is that I wasn't clear about the fact I wanted my sister to wait longer to stop by. You see, I donm't like the dog being in the crate more than 2 or 3 hours - and since we probably wouldn't be back for about 4 or 5 hours, I thought if the dog could get out after two, and then have a hefty play session, she would be fine for another two hours. But my sister didn't realize what I meant, and stopped by earlier.
Well, my son got home before us, and the dog had pushed the floor of the crate out across the room. Somehow she moved the rest of the crate about 5 feet around the corner towards the front door and was barking at the front door when my son walked in. I got home not too long after that - the poor thing was very very upset.
So, this whole crate thing - getting her to look at it as her den, is most likely a bust for her, since I just couldn't introduce it to her properly. I am thinking of putting it away for a while, and then try bringing it out again later to see if she is interested in hanging out in it at all.
Hopefully when she is grown and better trained, she can go run next to me while I tool around on one of my bikes. I do have a burly trailer, and have been tempted to put the dog in it and take her for a ride hahah, but she gets out of her saftey harnass for the car, so she probably wouldn't sit for it.
It would make a cute picture, though!
